Footloose presents the Fifth Annual Women on the Way Festival, Thursdays through Sundays, January 13-30, 2005. The closing of Venue 9 has provided an opportunity for Footloose to grow this year's festival at a larger, more vibrant space, and that is one reason why Dance Mission was selected. Being back in the Mission at Shotwell Studios and getting back to their roots in dance productions, Footloose will spotlight several up-and-coming choreographers destined to leave their mark on the San Francisco performance scene.

Artistic Director, Mary Alice Fry, has carefully curated this year's three-week program to unveil new work that reflects WOW's high caliber of performance. The festival will feature a different program each night, rotating the performances so audiences can experience a unique blend of theater, music, comedy and dance. Six of the Bay Area's most innovative performance companies will be featured, including Element Dance Theater, Counterpointe, Dance-Is-It Group, Facing East Dance & Music, Bekka's Frogland Orchestra, and Rococo Risque. Each year the festival presents a fresh solo performer, and in 2005 it's going to be Mina Liccione in Della Pancha.

The incredible breadth of dance applicants for this year's festival necessitated including a group showing that will include repertory work by Sean Dorsey, Hilary Bryan, Jenice Acosta, Angelina Nicole, Xeno, and Sara Shelton Mann's commissioned masterwork for Company Mécanique Dance Theater.

This year's opening night gala fundraiser will be Circus Exquisitus on Thursday, January 13 at Dance Mission. Doors open at 8:00 pm for performance party with silent auction, sumptuous international food and drink, and interactive installations with the WOW5 performers as your guides. Live music and dj's will get the dancing going. Featured guests include Rococo Risque, Bekka's Frogland Orchestra, The Kook Troupe, Diamond Daggers, Hot Pink Feathers, Simone de la Getto, Aruna, HummingbirdWORKS, Mina Liccione, Erica Rose Jeffrey, magician Christian Cagagil, Jade Blue Eclipse, and aerialists, Emily Leap, Sonya Smith and Christopher Love, Lauren Steiner, Amanda Starr, Susan Voyticky and many more will be on hand to transform Dance Mission into a den of creative delights!

On Sunday, January 16th, the popular family event, Women of the World, will return. This all-ages show will feature a party at 6:00 PM and an international performance line-up at 7:00 PM. Featured guest artists are NATyA, Taiko Ren, Tango Con Fusion, Davalos Dance Company, Akat Dance, Shahrzad Dance Company, plus joyful ancestral music by Chelle! and Friends.
